Former "Watson Whizzer" pilot 1st Lt. William Haynes crashed a captured German Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 fighter on Sept. 22, 1945 while performing a demonstration flight as part of an exhibition on the captured aircraft at Freeman Field, Ind. The National Air and Space Intelligence Center recognized Haynes's contributions to the foreign materiel exploitation mission when they named a new FME facility "Haynes Hall" as part of their 2017 centennial celebration.
